toddler prayers

When the home teachers were over yesterday, our little Guy wanted to pray:

"Heavenly Father. Thank you for this day. Thank you for Jesus and His power. In Jesus' name, amen."

There are few things that make me cry with more gratitude than seeing my family gain a testimony of Jesus Christ. I'm so grateful little S knows that Christ has the Power. Because He does. The power to save; the power to heal; the power to improve; the power to bring, provide, and shape all that's good in us and our world.

free stuff

Here's how it works: The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me. Just for you. This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:1- I get to choose what I make for you. 2- There are no returns or exchanges. 3- Your creation will be just for you. 4- It'll be done this year. 5- You have no clue what it's going to be. It may be a poem. It may be a mix-tape. It may be a small child. Remember: no returns. The catch? You have to join the tagging-crafting-giveaway ranks by re-posting this on your own blog and offering the same deal to 5 of your own lucky blog readers. So, the first 5 people to leave a comment telling me they are in win a homemade gift by me!

YES. I copied and pasted the above from a friend's blog. Why? Because I love the way it's written. Because I joined the ranks and now am obliged to pay it forward. Because I need motivation to tap in to my creativity again.

Oh, and don't worry. It is never too late to comment on this post and claim your lovin'. As long as you're one of the first 5. I commented on my friend's blog after 4 years and still hope to claim my homemade gift. So, in the name of fairness, it is not too late for you either. ;) Here's to creating beauty again. Cheers.

lady lou

This lady o'mine.... I don't have any great pictures of her that I haven't posted already. Probably because she is definitely on the move now. She is all over this house. She's wouldn't hold still and pose for that picture down there. She's 9 months now and many folks have predicted that she'll be walking at a year old. We'll see.
She growls. She squeals. She makes the best guttural sounds. They let me know that she is pleased and interested. Oh, I love her sounds. She sometimes moves on her hands and feet, instead of knees. She wants to be on her feet. Her balance is improving, especially with the wagon we have for walking.
She's tiny. At her check up she was just under 15 pounds. The 7th percentile for weight.
She's still pretty picky about foods and always prefers squishy fruits over everything else. Her favorites include bananas, peaches, apricots and pears. She wasn't digging my zucchini, fresh ground almond butter, and egg pancakes.

She's extremely social. The more people around right now, the better, because someone is likely to give her their undivided attention. She smiles at everyone and makes lots of friends at the stores. But she also will whine immediately if she doesn't like something. Um, how do I nip that in the bud?!?! We're working on sign language, positive reinforcement for positive communication, and ignoring the whining. She still prefers to whine to let me know she disapproves.
She's brave. She wants to climb the steps and has succeeded up one step once. She's a grabber. She reaches for anything and everything beyond her grasp. I pray that will be her life's theme. :) She finds every speck of filth in the floor and strengthens her pinching fingers. No teeth yet but TONS of drool. Oh, will the drool ever stop?!? My guy never drooled like this. Oh, but she is too cute for words. She enjoys peek-a-boo, tickles in her warm neck, pull herself to a standing position, and ANYTHING metallic. My dad noticed it first. She is after the bling. Anything shiny and metallic attracts her eye, especially jewelry. She'll rip it right off your body if you're not careful. Fellows, look out. We have a diva on our hands.

grateful for this day

My guy said a prayer all by himself today, without any prompting from me at all. It may have been his first without our help. I cried. It was a tender mercy reminding me of the huge spirit in this tiny body. It was the moment that turned my day around for the better.

I hadn't even sat down for lunch yet, but the food was served.

"I want to pray for the lunch, mommy."
"OK"
"Dear Heavenly Father. We're grateful for this day. In Jesus' name, amen."

I, too, am grateful for this day.

We're following the leader....

We're upstairs about to head downstairs to play with my Guy's train set. I asked if he wanted to lead the way.

"You want to be the leader, S?"
"Yeah"
A pause.
"I'm going to be a leader to preach the gospels."
"Oh, who are you going to preach the gospel to?"
"The preachers."
"Wow. That sounds wonderful."

To L.
"You want to preach the gospels? Ok. Let's go. Let's go to the missionaries!"

My little man has great things to do with this world. I know it. I feel it. I felt it when he was born. Why did we name him his name? Because it's a Scottish royal surname, meaning steward over the king's things. I plan to teach him and remind him that not only is he the oldest and has stewardship in our family, but in the Lord's kingdom and as a Priesthood holder he will have stewardship over the King of king's things. :)

I'm so grateful he's already begun to understand he's a leader.
